E85

On my way home tonight, I was listening to the radio program, Kalikasan Vigilante. On its last half hour, the hosts, Mr. Vic Milan and Ms. Emily Marcelo, were talking about the E85 fuel blend. They were joined through telephone by Mr. Glen Yu – the President of Sea Oil.

My bowling performance - week 8 of 28th COMP

This is the eight Tuesday of the 28th Chamber of Mines of Philippines Annual Bowling Tournament. And, there are 11 Tuesdays more to go. From my meeting in Manila, I proceeded to the venue and arrived early at about 4:00 PM. Seeing the bowling lanes empty, I doubted it’s Tuesday but confirmed it is by the tournament’s banner and name plates already in placed.

WordCamp Philippines 2008

Earlier, I read about the WordCamp Philippines 2008 and intended to join. I hesitated because I thought it’s for Wordpress bloggers only and forgot all about it. Then I learned from Mica, a fellow i.ph blogger, that even non-Worpress bloggers can join this event. So, I immediately visited the WordCamp Philippines 2008 site, check the schedule, venue, topics and speakers. Knowing that I would learn a lot from this valuable event, I read the requirements then registered. And, congratulations to me as I’m already registered for the first WordCamp in Southeast Asia.

Court stops GSIS take over of CTPL insurance

The Mandaluyong Regional Court issued a 20-day temporary restraining order against GSIS from implementing its plan to take over the issuance of CTPL insurance from private insurance companies. The court will study the merits of a petition filed by Ms. Belinda Martezano, an insurance agent, to stop the GSIS from monopolizing the CTPL business in the country.

Is your blog infected by virus?

Bloggers may not know it. Their blogs could have been infected and become carriers and sources of viruses on the web.

According to Sophos, an antivirus firm, blogs are the biggest sources of viruses; hence, the riskiest sites to visit. It noted that the number one host for malware is blogger.com, a free blog platform with URL that ends with blogspot.com. (Whoa! I have two blogs with blogger.com.) It estimated that blogger.com blogs account for two percent of infected webpages. Sophos said that hackers either set up malicious blogs using Blogger, or place comments into unsuspecting blogs that have links to websites that contain viruses.

Sky Watch Friday (#6)

We were in Tuguegarao City two weeks ago and had the opportunity to visit the Tuguegarao Cathedral (a.k.a. Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral). I was able to capture photos of the sky with the cathedral's belfry in the foreground. Tuguegarao City, the capital of the province of Cagayan, is located in the northern part of the Philippines.

Reported Attack Site!

I was opening the forum site of Tsikot.com when this "Reported Attack Site!" message appeared:

Tuguegarao Cathedral

I have been to Tuguegarao City several times in the past years. But, I had never been at the Tuguegarao Cathedral; though, I had seen it twice from afar.

Last July 12, the wedding of my nephew, Ronelle, was celebrated in Tuguegarao Cathedral; and, I had the opportunity to be in the cathedral. This cathedral is also known as the Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral.

Compulsory Third Party Liability Insurance

The fight over who should write the CTPL insurance is not yet over. What’s the controversy, in the first place?

The law compels the motor vehicle owner to procure a valid Third Party Liability Insurance and present the insurance policy upon filing of application as a requirement in the registration with the Land Transportation Office (LTO). However, there are unscrupulous entities or persons who are issuing fake insurance policies. To curb this malpractice, several systems, procedures have been devised and implemented. But these systems and procedures were no match to the issuers of fake insurance policies.

My bowling performance - week 7 of 28th COMP

I thought I could score another 200 on the first game. But, it was short by 9 pins. My scores were 191, 146, 165 or an average of 167. Good but not good enough.

Beng's birthday celebration

At Think Of Me!

Just like last year, we’d planned to celebrate her birthday overnight in Subic Bay Freeport Zone. We would leave Saturday morning and come back Sunday afternoon. But, the plan was changed due to limited budget. Our spending for the month has already been way way over the limit. And, it is aggravated by the high cost of gasoline.

Instead, we had birthday lunch at Emerald Garden with Beng’s sister-in-law - Ate Nory, her family, and Jaja with her friend Riel.

Let there be light

The screen of my son's lappy was very dim. It's still working; but, you could barely see what's displayed. I suspected its backlight was busted. I played technician. First, I connected an external monitor to see if it's really working; and, it was. That confirmed my suspicion, which was corroborated by our IT personnel. I attempted some quack solutions but was unsuccessful. So, to Toshiba Service Center I went.

A better week for me. I scored 169, 205, 163 (or an average of 179) . I couldn’t believe I scored more than 200. I broke my personal records:

  1. Highest score - from 177 to 205
  2. Highest average (3 games) – from 164 to 179.

A weekend 968 kilometer drive

Last Friday, we’re off to Quezon, Isabela to attend the wedding of our nephew, Ronelle. We used our Toyota Innova over the Kia Carens to accommodate more cargoes. As usual, I was the designated driver.

We left our place in Quezon City at around 12:00 noon. We only made three stop-overs – in Petron NLEX (for lunch), in San Jose City, Nueva Ecija (for snacks), and in Sta. Fe, Nueva Viscaya (for coffee). We arrived at my sister’s place in Quezon, Isabela at about 10:00 PM after traveling about 423 kilometers.

My Cebu Pacific Air experience

I’ve been hearing sad stories about the poor services of Cebu Pacific Air, particularly the delayed flights. I’d used this airline twice or thrice only for the past two years; and, I found their services not bad at all. The planes were new and the flights on time. So, with the bad stories, I just thought that the services have already deteriorated.

Not a good night for me! I just averaged 151 (157 - 160 - 137). And, I broke my lowest score of 139 by 2 pins and lowest average of 154 by 3. Consequently, my current average was slashed by 2 from 159 to 157.

Our first car

I was not able to buy my dream car, a Volkswagen Beetle, to be our first car. Instead, our first car was a 1976 Isuzu Gemini 2-Door. It was gas fed and had 4-speed manual transmission. We acquired it second hand from a friend at a real bargain price. However, some portions of the body were already rusting; the engine needed another overhaul (it had been overhauled a few times already, according to the former owner); the air-conditioning wasn’t working; and the electrical had problems too.

Jaja has a new mobile phone

My daughter Jaja's Nokia 5300 is already out of order and beyond economical repair. Last Sunday, Beng and I accompanied her bought a new mobile phone at the Cyberzone in SM North EDSA. Her new mobile is a black Nokia 3120 Classic. She was looking for a white color but other colors than black are not yet available. We were able to find the cheapest at Compex for P7,350 only, if you pay in cash. In you pay in credit card, the store would charge an interest. I think this practice is against the law.
