My bowling performance - week 17 of 28th CoMP

Week 17 - 28th Chamber of Mines of the Philippines Annual Bowling Tournament

Tuesday again! And, this is the antepenultimate week.

My scores were 170, 166, and 191 or an average of 176. On my third game, had I punched out the last frame, I could have scored 226, which would qualify me to the elite 225 Club. Unfortunately, it was a wide split. Too bad!

No signal!

One day, in the office, some office mates with phones under Smart Communications network were complaining that they couldn’t call nor they’re receiving calls while in their area. However, a few steps from this area, their phones were working properly.

While passing by this area, they explained to me the situation and I was requested to call their phones. Using my Nokia E90, I called up their numbers and other numbers outside of this area. The messages were “network busy”. I went a little farther and called them up. “The number you dialed is either unattended or out of coverage area” were the answers I received. I called up the other numbers I called up earlier from their area and I got through. Something, I thought, was not right. We tried to diagnose the problem.

It’s Tuesday again and the 16th week of the Chamber of Mines of the Philippines Bowling Tournament. But, I wasn’t able to attend.

Before leaving home for office, I made it sure that my bowling ball and uniform were already in car. Last week, I forgot the ball. Luckily, I was still about a kilometer away, when I remembered my ball.

Understanding an Indonesian Blog

Aki Gaul visited one of my blogs, My Daily Text, and left a message. Reciprocally, I clicked the link to his site. Then, I learned that he’s an Indonesian; and, his blog is written in Indonesian.

I’m not an Indonesian and knew nary a word of it; so, how could I understand what he wrote. I was about to post a thank you message then leave; when, all of a sudden, I decided to read some of his posts. One post is about OctoberFest. It’s about the beer festival that’s being held annually in Germany and in other parts of the world and how it’s being celebrated. Then, I left a comment to this in his Indonesian language.

How did I understand his posts and commented to his post in his language?

Microwave oven and eggs

At around lunch time at the office last Friday, we heard an explosion coming from our pantry.  An office mate was boiling an egg in a microwave oven.  She didn't knew the aftermath of cooking eggs in their shells in microwave oven.  It turned out that most of my office mates didn't know too.  My office mate is now nicknamed as the "Egg Buster".

Something is wrong with our Carens

There’s something unusual in our Kia Carens, particularly in its automatic transmission. After traveling for a few kilometers and the engine reached it normal temperature, I notice the following symptoms:
  1. From full stop, the car is laboring to move forward.
  2. At full stop, if the gear is shifted to either “R” or “D”, the car jerks - stronger at “R”.
  3. At full stop or in motion, if the gear is shifted to Sports Mode, the number of gear appearing on the indicator is always 3 regardless of the speed and even at full stop. It can be shifted down to 2 and back to 3 but never to 1 and 4.
  4. While running and the gear is shifting, the gear slips before engaging.

Get apprehended or donate an organ

Today, I heard reports that MMDA personnel were, instead of issuing traffic violation receipts, requiring violators to be an eye donor in the event of their death.

But, it isn’t MMDA but the Makati City Police Department. In partnership with the Eye Bank Foundation of the Philippines (EBFP), today’s traffic violators that were caught in Makati City were condoned by the Makati City police provided they agreed to donate their eyes or other organs, except sex organs, upon their death. The project is titled “Ticket Mo Sagot Ko, Basta I-Donate Mo Ang Mata Mo (Your ticket is on me, provided you donate your eyes)”.

My bowling performance - week 15 of 28th COMP

Week 15 - 28th Chamber of Mines of the Philippines Annual Bowling Tournament

I was glad it’s another Tuesday of bowling. I left our home in Novaliches, Quezon City at around 5:30 AM. After traveling about a kilometer, I realized that my bowling bag, of course with my bowling ball, wasn’t in the car. So, I turned around and got it. It’s good I was thinking about the bowling, which reminded me that I forgot to load the ball in the car.

I scored 155, 171, and 183 or an average of 170. Not bad, I thought. Had it not for the 3 unconverted splits in my first game, I could averaged better. Actually, I had four splits but converted one only.

WILD is how I describe the traffic scenarios in the Philippines.  In tight traffic situations, most Filipino drivers, private and public utility drivers alike, become WILD.  They are undisciplined, in a hurry, unkind, discourteous, hot-headed and disobedient to the traffic rules and regulations.

I wanna play chess again

Let’s play chess!

With the just concluded 3rd President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo (PGMA) Cup International Open, where the Philippines and Asia’s first Grand Master Eugene Torre emerged as the Champion, my interest and zeal in chess rekindled. I wanted to play chess again. I miss announcing “check” and “mate” or hearing my opponent says “I resign”. To hone my skills in chess again, I have to look for other wood pushers whom I could play with. Or, I could just search for online chess games, which is more convenient.

My bowling performance - week 14 of 28th CoMP

I am congratulating Mr. Jeff Carabeo and Ms. Kim Lao for outsmarting veteran bowlers like Paulo Valdez, Biboy Rivera, Liza del Rosario and Krizziah Tabora thereby winning the National Title of the 2008 Bowling World Cup last Sunday at the SM MOA Bowling Center.  The duo will be sent to Hermosillo, Mexico on November 2008 to test their mettles in the international finals of the cup against the world’s bests.  Last year, Paulo and Liza represented the country in the World Cup in Petersburg, Russia.

At CoMP bowling tourney tonight, my scores weren’t good: 168 – 134 – 168 (average of 157 only).  Jeff and Kim’s averages are about 210.  I had gunned for another 200 games on my third game but only to be frustrated by three similar cherries.  The pins left were 6 and 10 and I chopped the 6.

When her blog is up and running, I’m amazed at how she’s gaining more audiences than I. As a matter of fact, her blog had been ranked PR 2 until Google found out her paid blogging.
